XLVIII National and XXIV International Congress of the SEOC
Description
The Spanish Society of Sheep and Goat Technology (SEOC) will hold its 48th National and 24th International Congress in Bilbao on 1, 2 and 3 October 2025. This is a leading meeting for the sheep and goat sector, bringing together researchers, technicians, veterinarians, farmers and students.
The event will take place at the Bizkaia Aretoa (UPV/EHU) , located at Avenida Abandoibarra, 3 (Bilbao) , and will feature a comprehensive scientific program combining keynote addresses, round tables, oral presentation sessions, and parallel activities.
A high-level program
The conference will open on Wednesday, October 1, with a satellite session sponsored by Analítica Veterinaria and MSD, focusing on the clinical veterinarian's role in diagnosis and featuring an original debate entitled "Why do sheep pray? Devotion or penance?"
The event will begin on Thursday, October 2nd with the opening presentation by María Climent (University of Zaragoza) on the differential diagnosis of neurological diseases in small ruminants. Throughout the day, key topics will include veterinary pharmacovigilance , advances in milking technology , the impact of climate change on livestock farming, the status of bluetongue in Spain and Europe, and the challenges facing meat goats . The event will conclude with the SEOC General Assembly and an Idiazabal cheese tasting with local craft beers .
On Friday, October 3, there will be parallel oral presentation sessions on pathology, health, nutrition, genetics, reproduction, and production systems , as well as highly topical presentations on forensic veterinary medicine and health risks associated with wildlife . A roundtable discussion on the compatibility between traditional livestock farming and wolves will also be held, with the participation of researchers, livestock farmers, and conservation organizations.
The conference will conclude with the official closing ceremony and the traditional gala dinner , where diplomas and prizes will be awarded to the best scientific papers .
