Description

The Celebration of the International Year of Grasslands and Shepherds - International Meeting in Madrid, will be a benchmark forum where researchers, livestock farmers, shepherds, technicians, environmental organizations, public administrations and community leaders committed to the sustainable management of livestock and grasslands will meet.

2026 has been chosen by the United Nations to place the importance of grasslands and grazing on the international agenda, and it will also be the year in which transhumance will be formally declared an Asset of Cultural Interest in the Community of Madrid, a particularly significant milestone for the preservation of this living heritage. For this reason, the region has chosen to be the first stop on the numerous initiatives that will take place throughout the year, with grazing as the central theme.

The meeting will address the main challenges and opportunities linked to the activity, highlighting the role of grazing and transhumance as key practices for the conservation of the territory, biodiversity, cultural heritage and the sustainable development of rural communities.
