Description

The Union of Small Farmers and Ranchers (UPA) will hold the technical conference "Influence of agricultural management on biodiversity, functioning and health of Mediterranean soils" on November 6, 2025 , within the framework of the Agricultural Exhibition (SAGRIS). This event will bring together experts, researchers and professionals from the agricultural sector to discuss the importance of soil as a pillar of agricultural sustainability.

The free, in-person event will begin at 12:00 with an opening ceremony led by representatives of the UPA (University of Catalonia), followed by a presentation by the PAC Network . The SOILBIO project will then be presented. This initiative, promoted by the UPA, studies how agricultural practices influence soil biodiversity, soil structure, and its resilience to climate change.

At 12:30 p.m., the scientific results of the SOILBIO project will be presented, offering practical insight into the relationship between agricultural management strategies—such as reduced tillage, the use of plant cover, and crop rotation—and the improvement of fertility, water retention, and microbial biodiversity.

The event will continue at 1:45 p.m. with a roundtable discussion , bringing together technicians, farmers, and institutional representatives to exchange experiences on how to move toward more sustainable agricultural systems that respect soil ecosystems.

The event will conclude at 2:15 p.m. with the official closing ceremony.

This event provides an opportunity to delve deeper into the key role of soil as a strategic resource in the agriculture of the future, reinforcing the sector's commitment to sustainability, innovation, and knowledge transfer at the field level.
