Granada will host the 15th AEEA Agri-Food Economics Congress and the 1st Congress of the Ibero-American Network on Agri-Food and Natural Resources Economics in September 2025.
Description
The agri-food economics conferences organized by the Spanish Association of Agri-Food Economics (AEEA) have established themselves over the years as a leading academic and scientific forum for discussing the major challenges facing the agri-food and natural resources sectors. From 3 to 5 September 2025, this forum will take a further step forward by jointly hosting the 15th AEEA Agri-Food Economics Conference and the 1st Conference of the Ibero-American Network on Agri-Food and Natural Resources Economics (RIEARN) .
A motto for times of transformation
The event will be held under the theme "Providing solutions in times of change from the agri-food and environmental economy," which emphasizes the need to generate applied scientific knowledge that contributes to addressing the sector's major challenges.
Geopolitical uncertainty, rapid technological advances, the need to achieve sustainability, and changing consumer habits create a complex landscape that requires rigorous analysis and innovative proposals. The conference aims to bridge the gap between academic research and professional practice, offering useful tools for moving toward a more resilient, competitive, and sustainable agri-food system.
Organization and institutional support
The conference is organized by the University of Granada (UGR) and the Andalusian Institute for Research and Training in Agriculture, Fisheries, Food and Organic Production (IFAPA) , which are joining the AEEA in this top-level international event.
The joint event with RIEARN will broaden the scope of the debate, incorporating experiences and perspectives from various Ibero-American countries, which will enrich the analysis of the economics of natural resources and agri-food systems in a global context.
A forum for scientific and professional exchange
For three days, Granada will be a meeting point for researchers, professionals, public policymakers, and representatives of organizations linked to the agri-food and environmental sectors. The program will include plenary presentations, roundtable discussions, and presentations of scientific papers addressing relevant topics such as:
- The transition towards sustainable agri-food systems.
- Digitalization and technological innovation in the sector.
- The efficient management of natural resources such as water, soil and energy.
- The impact of agricultural and environmental policy on the sector's competitiveness.
- The challenges of international trade and food security.
A key event for the sector
The combination of the scientific focus of the AEEA and the Ibero-American vision of the RIEARN makes this congress a strategic forum for advancing proposals and solutions to address current and future challenges. Granada, with its university tradition and its importance in the Andalusian agri-food sector, will be the ideal venue to host this international event.
The AEEA encourages researchers, professionals, and industry stakeholders to participate in this conference, which, in the words of its organizers, "aims to contribute useful science in times of change, contributing to the sustainability and balanced development of society."
