The European Commission is organizing a webinar on artificial intelligence applied to the agri-food sector, climate and the environment
Description
The next session of the Apply AI thematic webinar series will be held on March 19, 2026 , focusing on the role of artificial intelligence in the agri-food, climate, and environment sectors. The event, which can be followed live on YouTube , will offer a sector-specific overview of how the European Commission aims to accelerate AI adoption in collaboration with the private sector and other key stakeholders.
The meeting will begin by addressing the opportunities that artificial intelligence offers to the European agri-food ecosystem. This section will analyze how to translate technological innovation into practical applications to improve the sector's competitiveness, strengthen sustainability, and generate public benefits. Among the planned topics are the presentation of a marketplace for AI-based solutions for the agri-food sector , as well as new support programs aimed at developing the capacity to create foundational models specifically for agriculture , including large-scale linguistic models.
The session will highlight how AI is already transforming agricultural production through intelligent advisory tools, applications that convert data into recommendations tailored to each farm, and solutions that facilitate faster and more accurate decisions based on local conditions. It will also emphasize its potential to improve resource efficiency, boost precision agriculture, advance robotics, and reduce administrative burdens.
In its second segment, the webinar will focus on the relationship between artificial intelligence, climate, and the environment. It will explore how these technologies can strengthen environmental monitoring, forecasting, Earth observation, and early warning systems, as well as support decision-making regarding climate resilience and preparedness. In this context, the webinar will present the value of initiatives such as Destination Earth , which offer high-resolution, interactive simulations with powerful predictive capabilities.
The event will be moderated by Andrea Hak , stakeholder relations expert at the AI Office of DG CONNECT . The agri-food panel will feature Pierluigi Londero , Head of the Data Governance Unit at DG AGRI , and Doris Marquardt , EU policy program officer and contact person for Agriculture at DG CONNECT . The climate and environment panel will include Tsitlakidis Charalampos , Sector Manager for Destination Earth at DG CONNECT , and Irina Sandu , Director of Destination Earth (DestinE) at the ECMWF .
In addition to following the live broadcast, attendees will be able to participate in the conversation by submitting questions before or during the session via Slido , making this meeting an opportunity for farmers, companies, researchers and other stakeholders to contribute to defining priorities for European ecosystems linked to agri-food, climate and the environment.
