Agrarian Unions-UPA organizes the 8th technical conference on demographic challenge and generational change in rural areas

On October 8, 2025, Unións Agrarias-UPA will hold the eighth edition of the technical conference "Demographic challenge in rural areas and promotion of generational change" , an initiative included in the Living Territories program: Environmental Regeneration, Generational Change and Demographic Challenge , within the framework of the CAP Strategic Plan 2023-2027 .
The online, free activity is aimed at professionals in the agri-food and forestry sectors. Its main objective is to raise awareness about the abandonment of rural areas and agroforestry activities , as well as to present new ways to maintain farms .
Main contents of the day
Key issues will be addressed during the session:
- Demographic challenge in rural areas : population aging, loss of youth in the countryside, structural causes of abandonment and main indicators.
- Abandonment of agroforestry activities : changes in land area and closure of farms, with a focus on the gender perspective and the role of rural women.
- New farm transfer models : long-term leases, limited partnerships, intergenerational mentoring programs, land banks, and connection platforms.
- Case studies of success : real-life experiences in Galicia, Castile and León, Castile-La Mancha, and Extremadura, with examples of cooperative initiatives, sustainable agriculture, and non-family generational renewal.
- Measures for agroforestry sustainability and efficiency : digitalization strategies, energy efficiency, agroecology, technical training, and public support.
The event is organized by Unións Agrarias-UPA , as a beneficiary of the aid regulated by Royal Decree 251/2024, of March 12 , aimed at promoting training, knowledge exchange, and advisory services in the agri-food and forestry sectors.
