Description

The online course "Design and Construction of Biogas/Biomethane Plants for Engineers" offers specialized training in the design, sizing, and technical-economic evaluation of anaerobic digestion facilities applied to organic waste treatment. It is aimed at professionals in the agri-food sector and agricultural engineers who wish to acquire specific skills in biogas and biomethane production technologies, within the framework of the bioeconomy and energy transition.

The course covers the operation of the biological anaerobic digestion process, the analysis of raw materials (including SANDACH waste and agricultural byproducts), and the technical criteria for the design of each plant component: digesters, pretreatment systems, biogas upgrading, digestate storage and management. Key aspects such as applicable regulations, the economic and energy viability of the project, and business models based on the valorization of byproducts are also covered.

The methodology combines pre-recorded virtual classes, practical case studies based on real-life installations, and assessment through exercises and self-assessments. Upon completion, a university digital micro-credential is awarded, compliant with the European Digital Credentials for Learning (EDC) standard, valid in all countries of the European Higher Education Area.

This course provides the necessary tools to apply the acquired knowledge in the analysis, planning, and execution of energy recovery projects. It is especially useful for those seeking to join engineering, environmental consulting, or agro-industrial management teams, or to start a business in the renewable energy sector based on the use of organic waste.

GOALS
  • Understand the principles of anaerobic digestion and its application in the use of organic waste.
  • Provide training in the technical design of biogas and biomethane plants, adapted to different scales and raw material sources.
  • Analyze the economic, energy and environmental viability of energy recovery projects.
  • Delve into the regulatory framework and legal requirements, including SANDACH waste and fertilizers.
  • Become familiar with the operation, maintenance, and safety of real-life facilities.
