The project focused on the introduction of a new transversal activity in the three participating educational centers, supervised by three public scientific entities,
This new activity, called the "Participatory Selection and Breeding Program for Botany in the EU," will be delivered during the student academic term, extending into the summer for data collection and analysis by scientific supervisors. The project will last a total of 36 months, from September 2020 to September 2023. The need for a project of this duration is predetermined by the calendar of activities designed by the participating scientific entities, which have established a minimum of three years to reach the expected scientific conclusions after a prior analysis. Furthermore, from an educational perspective, the three centers understand that three academic years are necessary to establish a permanent link and obtain the resulting pedagogical method with which we intend to implement the new subject after the Erasmus+ period.
Obtaining new varieties of Brassica plant species. Registration and publication of scientific results in the journals 1/ Natural Sciences Education (NSE), 2/ Bordón, 3/ The Journal of Experimental Education, 4/ Innovations in Education and Teaching International, 5/ The Journal of Agricultural Education and Extension, 6/ HORIZON (official scientific publication of the European Union) and, finally, EDUGA (official publication of the Xunta de Galicia). Introduction of a new optional subject in the applicants' curriculum after the end of the subsidized period.
This course will preserve the botanical garden created during this Erasmus+ project, continuing the Research and Development program, now integrated into a specific course for the permanent breeding of new plant varieties. In this new course, along with fieldwork in the garden, a specific course on local agricultural integration will be taught, including internships facilitated by the partner municipalities. Special emphasis will be placed on EU aid for young farmers: EU income support and rural development funds. Agricultural work will be promoted in these three towns, which are strongly rooted in this economic activity, thus contributing, through our respective educational centers, to the fight against unemployment, emigration, and denaturalization among the residents of Meis, Vila Franca, and Galway.
