Description

The IES Luces ERASMUS+ KA 102 project is called SURCOS (TILLING KNOWLEDGE) and its objective is for four of our Ecological Agriculture and Gardening students to undertake a twelve-day mobility in two similar educational centres: CFPPA LOT ET GARONNE (France) and ISTITUTO DE INSTRUZIONE SUPERIORE “VICENZO DANDOLO” (Italy).

Description of activities

Students will join the host centers to receive theoretical and practical training and will have the opportunity to learn about local culture and customs. They will also create teaching materials to share their experiences. This material will be published on a dedicated blog. The project will be based on an active approach; in addition to creating teaching materials under the guidance of teachers, participants are expected to share their learning outcomes. We aim to achieve a significant improvement in students' academic performance and future job prospects.

Contextual description

IES Luces is an Agricultural Vocational Training Center. Founded in 1951, it is located in Colunga, Asturias, Spain. We have been training agricultural professionals in northern Spain for almost seventy years. Although the number of young people entering the agricultural sector has decreased significantly in recent years, there is a growing consumer demand for quality local products. At the same time, the idea that "you don't need to study to be a farmer" is deeply rooted in the minds of some. We know this isn't true, but what can we do to change this belief?

Objectives
  • To make our Organic Agriculture and Livestock students aware of the prestige of agricultural training outside of Spain.
  • Encourage the training of students, even those who do not participate.
  • Improve the reputation of agricultural training.
Results

This mobility experience should be an incentive for them to participate in future international projects. Finally, we truly hope that this initiative will contribute to improving the social image of agricultural education and, consequently, increase the number of students who choose to enroll.
