Description

"2050 Not Far Away, Tomorrow!" was a project that was initially scheduled to last 24 months, according to the application form. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the group of partners decided to agree on a six-month extension to meet the program's objectives. This collaborative project between educational centers in Romania, Serbia, Greece, Turkey, and Spain focused on the current concern of our educational communities, reflected in the European Commission's work priorities, regarding the ecological sustainability of our planet, severely affected by climate change. In particular, official studies show that the Earth's biodiversity is disappearing at an alarming rate due to exponential population growth (resulting in excessive use of natural resources), pollution, and the spread of disease. It is predicted that by 2050—hence the title of our project—this situation could become irreversible. Therefore, fully trusting in the educational world's capacity for change, we have worked with the new European generations to promote sustainable development, knowledge and care for the primary sector, and the protection of our natural resources.

Description of activities

Among the diverse activities and proposals carried out over these months, the following stand out: the creation of teaching templates and classroom programming based on new methodologies for curricular content related to our project, the creative design of newsletters on environmental sustainability, and the publication of a completely original e-book.

Results

The achievements during these months of work, in line with the initially set objectives, have been: the development of a conservative awareness of biodiversity; the change in behaviors, attitudes, and routines among our students through new educational strategies; the increase in student motivation and interest in natural sciences; the promotion of critical thinking in our classrooms; the development of digital competence; and the improvement of communication in foreign languages as a way of building bridges between diverse societies and cultures in a fully coordinated effort between the partners and their respective educational communities.

A new sense of responsibility toward our common home has been discovered in our participating students, as well as in their teachers and families. They are now acting consciously both locally and globally, pursuing the sustainability of our way of life and the creation and long-term maintenance of a shared space and way of working among the participating partner schools.
