AGROALNEXT VOLETRACK Project: Improving the monitoring of harmful rodent pests with the support of new technologies
- Type Project
- Scope Autonómico
- Autonomous community Asturias, Principado de
- Main source of financing NextGenerationEU
- Project website Web del Proyecto
Description
Use of a mobile application for recording and observing the status of populations, and the use of satellite images to indirectly determine the expansion of voles through the health of the grassland.
Contextual description
Voles are key to agroecosystems, but species like the European vole, *Arvicola scherman*, have become agricultural pests in Western Europe. Their high population densities cause serious damage to crops. Their populations are influenced by the landscape, making it difficult to predict population explosions. Large-scale monitoring is costly and complex, especially in landscapes like that of Asturias. To optimize integrated pest management, effective and cost-efficient monitoring is required to improve decision-making and optimize resource allocation.
Results
Large-scale remote sensing model for high-resolution vole monitoring. Early detection and targeted control: identification of risk zones and periods. Cost-effective surveillance: use of Sentinel-2 data. Support for real-time decision-making.
