On May 7, 2026 , the agri-food sector has a key appointment in Madrid with the celebration of the day "Agriculture and food on the horizon 2040" , organized by the Agrarian Forum Foundation together with the Institute of Engineering of Spain and the National Association of Agricultural Engineers.

The meeting will take place at the headquarters of the Institute of Engineering of Spain (General Arrando Street, 38), from 9:15 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. , and can be followed both in person and online through the Institute's YouTube channel.

A strategic analysis of the future of agri-food

The event was created with the aim of reflecting on the challenges and opportunities of the agri-food sector in the medium and long term , in a context marked by factors such as climate change, digitalization, public policies, the market and consumption habits.

As the program states, the future of the sector will depend on the ability to balance competitiveness, sustainability and food security , driving transformations in both agricultural production and the food industry and consumption.

In this regard, key challenges will be addressed, such as generational change, the transition to more sustainable models, technological innovation, and the growing demand for qualified professionals.

A program focused on innovation, market and consumption

The day will begin with an institutional welcome by representatives of the Institute of Engineering of Spain and the Agrarian Forum Foundation.

Next, the opening conference will take place, focusing on technology and the future of food production, which will highlight the role of innovation in the transformation of the sector.

The program will continue with a segment dedicated to future trends , which will cover:

  • New technologies and their application in agricultural production, with special attention to digitalization, precision agriculture and sustainability.
  • The challenges and priorities of the food industry, in a context of increasing environmental and market demands.
  • The challenges and opportunities in distribution and consumption, marked by a greater demand for healthy, sustainable and locally sourced products.

After a coffee break, the day will include a round table discussion in which experts from the agri-food sector will analyze the strategies and initiatives underway to address the future of food chains, followed by an open debate with the attendees.
