Description

Next Wednesday, January 28, 2026, from 13:00 – 14:00 h (CET), the online meeting "Measuring agroecology" will be held, corresponding to the 16th Conversation on Agroecology , a European meeting focused on the role of measurement and evaluation in the agroecological transition .

The event is part of AGROECOLOGY , the European Association "Accelerating Farming Systems Transition: Agroecology Living Labs and Research Infrastructures" , a large-scale research and innovation initiative driven by the European Commission together with 26 Member States, associated countries and third countries .

Agroecology aims to support an agricultural sector capable of responding to the challenges of climate change, biodiversity loss, food security and sovereignty, and environmental protection , while ensuring profitable and attractive farming for farmers . To achieve this, it promotes a profound transformation towards more sustainable and resilient agricultural systems aligned with social and political demands , based on the principles of agroecology , which combine natural and biological interactions with science, technology, and innovation, integrating farmers' knowledge.

A space to strengthen the AKIS in agroecology

The Conversations on Agroecology represent one of the first steps towards strengthening Agricultural Knowledge and Innovation Systems (AKIS) in the field of agroecology. Through monthly meetings, these sessions facilitate connections between actors from Living Labs and Research Infrastructures across Europe, fostering knowledge exchange, mutual learning, and networking among the various stakeholders involved in the agroecological transition.

The meeting "Measuring agroecology" will focus on how to measure, evaluate and value the progress and results of agroecological approaches, a key aspect for their adoption, scaling up and recognition in public policies and agricultural practice.
