Description
The HORTNEXT project aims for a greener and healthier agri-food sector in eastern Spain.
Contextual description
The Spanish agri-food sector is very dynamic and open to innovation. However, the transfer of scientific innovations to the business world is often hampered by a lack of communication between the two. This project focuses on overcoming this barrier by increasing the flow of information between the scientific and business worlds.
Results
Pre-commercial varieties of pepper rootstocks and new carrot varieties have been developed, species with agricultural potential for saline and degraded soils have been identified, and rootstock strategies, rotations, and underutilized crops that improve soil resilience, reduce environmental impact, and increase the nutritional quality of food have been validated. Patent: APPLICATION FOR REGISTRATION OF PURPLE CARROT VARIETY.
