From the field to the cloud: using Mergin Maps and GIS in precision agriculture
Description
Practical training to apply digital tools in the efficient management of agricultural holdings
On November 14, 2025 , from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM, the European Digital Innovation Hub Andalucía Agrotech (Andalucía Agrotech EDIH) is organizing the workshop “From the field to the cloud: use of Mergin Maps and GIS in precision agriculture” , a training aimed at professionals in the agri-food and agrotech sector , workers of SMEs, cooperatives or self-employed , who want to start using digital tools to improve the management of their farms.
Lasting 5 hours and at a basic level , the course combines theory and practice to teach how to use Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and the Mergin Maps application as a bridge between the field and the cloud.
The aim of the workshop is to show how digitization can help optimize the use of resources, reduce costs and increase sustainability:
- Reduce water consumption and adjust fertilization or the use of pesticides.
- Digitizing agricultural or forestry plots, and keeping a more precise record of livestock.
- Use accessible tools like QGIS , Mergin Maps , and Input to connect field data with the office.
Workshop program
1. Presentation of Andalucía Agrotech EDIH and its services.
2. Theoretical content (2.2 h)
- Fundamentals of GIS and digital cartography.
- Mergin Maps and Input: the connection between field and office.
- Practical examples in precision agriculture (irrigation, incidents, inventories, pests).
- Creating simple projects in QGIS and configuring forms.
- Synchronization with Mergin Maps.
3. Practical content (2.2 h)
- Guided exercise in data collection and visualization.
- Field recording with the Input mobile app (points, lines and polygons).
- Mapping of incidents in an agricultural plot.
- Sending data to the cloud and visualizing it in QGIS.
- Exporting, collaboration, and best practices in data management.
