INTERREG-SUDOE Phos4cycle Project: Monitoring phosphates in agricultural and livestock activities for the sustainable use of soil and water

Context and Challenge: Soil and water conservation is a common challenge for countries in the SUDOE region, especially considering the impact of certain agricultural practices. In this regard, the presence of phosphates in excessive quantities can lead to significant contamination risks. Furthermore, little is known about how to reduce it.

Objectives Pilot Sites Six pilot sites will be studied in France, Spain, and Portugal. They will cover the following types of production: cereals, vines, olives, extensive livestock farming, ducks for foie gras, horticulture, forage crops, and field vegetables. Strategies and Action Plans Phos4Cycle aims to develop a strategy and action plan to reduce the impact of phosphates on agriculture and livestock farming. This includes a pilot project to improve the monitoring of phosphate fluxes and the forecasting of eutrophication risk in river basins.
