Description

The ECOSPHEREWINES project aims to improve wine-growing landscapes, a crucial economic and tourism resource in the SUDOE region affected by depopulation and an aging population, where preserving natural and environmental capital is vital for rural communities. Spatial planning based on ecosystem services is effective in urban environments, but specific data for its application in rural areas are lacking.

To overcome this challenge, the current state of green infrastructure (VI) will be analyzed at various landscape scales, identifying the factors that facilitate or hinder its implementation in wine-growing landscapes. Furthermore, a methodology will be designed and tested in two pilot projects to select, calculate, measure, and map the most relevant ecosystem services at different scales. This will allow for the establishment of future scenarios for planning similar wine-growing landscapes, facilitating the transfer and capitalization of solutions at a transnational level. The aim is to develop a more comprehensive and holistic management approach that improves biodiversity, the environment, and tourism and cultural services in rural areas of the SUDOE region.

Objectives

The project aims to improve the ecosystem services of wine-growing agricultural landscapes by implementing a green infrastructure (VI) network in areas of high ecological value, seeking to conserve and sustainably manage these landscapes, promoting biodiversity and increasing their resilience to climate change.
