Abstract
Strategic Transfer Plan Priority: 1 - Preserving natural capital and strengthening adaptation to climate change in the Southwest Objective: SO 2.7 (…) Protection and conservation of nature / biodiversity / green infrastructure The development of a joint transnational strategy aimed at boosting local development through the generation, storage, and use of green hydrogen as an energy vector integrated into local energy communities contributes to Program Implementation Indicator RC083. The strategic plan will be based on the results and lessons learned from the preparatory studies of Working Group 1 and the implementation of the predictive platform and hydrogen integration models. In this regard, the aim is to offer individualized solutions to energy communities, with special attention to rural areas, based on a prior analysis of the context and challenges of the Southwest region. Furthermore, testing the pilot projects will allow for the establishment of strategic actions for their replication in other regions and in the previously identified energy communities. The strategic plan will be disseminated among companies in the sector, clusters, educational and R&D centers, associations and, especially, among the competent authorities, energy agencies and CELs with transferability potential.
Description

The European project SharedH2-SUDOE aims to consolidate renewable hydrogen as a viable energy storage solution for self-consumption communities, especially in rural areas. The initiative, which covers territories in Spain, Portugal, and France, seeks to advance technical and scientific knowledge in the sector, as well as test innovative solutions in at least three strategic locations within the SUDOE region. Since its launch on January 1, 2024, SharedH2-SUDOE has convened innovation forums and working meetings to foster cooperation among its partners. The initiative also involves key stakeholders in the energy sector, such as local authorities, businesses, consumers, educational institutions, and energy communities.

One of the project's first achievements has been the development of a diagnostic study on the generation, distribution, storage, and use of green hydrogen in the SUDOE region on a small scale. Currently, the project is progressing along three key lines:

  1. Energy consumption assessment: A predictive platform is being developed to analyze the energy surplus of participating communities.
  2. Implementation of pilot projects: Spain: A local government is seeking to create an energy community in an industrial park. France: A technology park with a university campus is working on the infrastructure for a sustainable mobility system based on hydrogen. Portugal: Three municipalities are exploring how to use surplus photovoltaic energy to power an intercity hydrogen transport system.
  3. Theoretical models for green hydrogen integration: These will be tested in the three pilot cases to determine technical requirements and capabilities in energy communities.

With these advances, SharedH2-SUDOE positions itself as a benchmark in the sustainable energy transition, promoting renewable hydrogen as a key alternative in the development of energy communities in Europe.

Objectives

Among its main objectives is the development of a roadmap for the European economy based on renewable energies, with special emphasis on green hydrogen.
