The primary sector in the rural areas of Southwest France is fundamental not only for economic development but also for environmental conservation, maintaining the rural population, and preserving cultural and landscape heritage. However, it faces significant challenges such as shrinking profit margins, external competition, and difficulties in generational succession. In this context, agritourism offers an opportunity to revitalize these areas, attracting new talent and boosting local economies.
Key activities of the AgroTour SUDOE project: Creation of innovative pilot experiences: Development of agritourism activities that connect visitors with local farming and livestock practices, promoting the value of local products. Mapping and activation of key stakeholders: Identification of relevant stakeholders in agritourism in the participating regions, creating collaborative networks to strengthen the sector. Training and awareness-raising: Training of local producers in sustainable agritourism practices, and raising consumer awareness about the importance of sustainability and responsible consumption.
Monitoring and evaluation: Supervision of pilot projects to ensure their success and replicability in other regions, so they can be integrated into public policies. AgroTour SUDOE seeks to facilitate convergence between rural and urban areas, promoting a change in the perception of local agri-food products and strengthening sustainable economic development in rural areas of southwestern Europe. Its key activities include developing agritourism pilot projects, identifying key stakeholders in the sector, training producers, and monitoring results to integrate them into public policies. AgroTour SUDOE aims to strengthen the link between rural and urban areas, contributing to the economic and social development of rural areas in southwestern Europe.
The AgroTour SUDOE project aims to promote agritourism as a key tool for revitalizing rural areas within the SUDOE region, which includes parts of Spain, France, and Portugal. Through agritourism, the project seeks to diversify the income sources of local producers, promote sustainability in the primary sector, and enhance the value of local agri-food products.
