Abstract
Action Plan (ASCA Training and Capacity Building Plan) Priority: 2 - Promote social cohesion and territorial and demographic balance in the Southwest through innovation and transformation of productive sectors. Objective: 1.4 Develop capacities for smart specialization, industrial transition, and entrepreneurship. For the Action Plan, ASCA has designed a joint framework, which includes: actions, a timeline, division of responsibilities, and resources. This translates into the ASCA Training and Capacity Building Plan, with two distinct but coordinated programs, which will serve as the basis for the GT3 Pilot Action: 1) Training Program for SMEs […]

Development of a Transnational Strategy Priority: 2 - Promote social cohesion and territorial and demographic balance in the Southwest through innovation and transformation of productive sectors Objective: 1.4 Develop capacities for smart specialization, industrial transition, and entrepreneurship A Transnational Strategy will be developed to strengthen the capacities of the agro-industrial sector in the Southwest. The objective is to improve the various regional support programs for SMEs currently offered in the Southwest regions involved in ASCA. This Strategy will be adopted, at a minimum, by the Regional Government of Extremadura, once the project is completed. […]

Description

SMEs in the agri-food sector face several common challenges: rising costs, technological advancements, and climate change. Furthermore, the flow of knowledge between academia and the business sector is limited, especially in the more rural areas of the SUDOE region, undermining their competitiveness and talent retention. To achieve effective knowledge transfer to SMEs, two complementary actions will be designed: 1) Knowledge transfer through a challenge-based approach.

ASCA will develop two joint training programs: The first will be aimed at 170 agribusiness SMEs, helping them understand their challenges and potential solutions. The second will be for 280 higher education students (Master's or PhD) who will participate in the knowledge transfer of the next phase. 2) Transforming Challenges into Projects. The programs will be interconnected, assigning 100 qualified students to 100 SMEs that wish to transform the selected challenge into a project, under the supervision of a tutor from the partner organizations. ASCA represents a significant innovation compared to traditional models, as it is based on a transnational approach in which 10 major organizations in our region will work together. It facilitates direct and practical collaboration between students (STEM) and SMEs, with students acting as facilitators of the companies' smart transition, fostering the retention of talent in the region and the circulation of knowledge.

Objectives

ASCA will develop a collaborative scheme between training centers, students and SMEs, with the aim of:

  • Strengthening the capabilities and knowledge of SMEs in the sector to facilitate their smart and sustainable transition through a focus on CHALLENGES.
  • To facilitate the application of acquired knowledge through a practical approach focused on project development. Based on the creation of a transnational strategy, the region's capabilities will be pooled to address the common challenges faced by agri-food SMEs, aligned with the RIS3 strategies of the three regions.
