The Balam Integrated Production Group Association (formerly API Galpagro) is launching the project "Improving environmental skills and training for active workers in the agricultural sector." The project has the Rural Innovation Hub Barrax Association as a collaborating entity. This project is a collaboration with the Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO) through a call for competitive grants for workers within the framework of the Empleaverde Program, co-financed by the European Social Fund. The project will last nine months, starting on July 1 and ending on March 31, 2022.
The training program consists of 4 modules:
- Digitalization of irrigation processes.
- Centralization and digitalization of agricultural exploitation processes.
- Adapting field tasks to the COVID-19 context.
- Final project. Environmental and/or digital improvement in crops.
The project's objective is to improve farmers' skills in sustainability and digital innovation to promote modern, competitive, and sustainable agriculture. It also seeks to promote farmers' job security in the face of COVID-19. To achieve these objectives, a training program is being developed, both in-person and online. The courses will be taught in three autonomous communities: Andalusia, the Canary Islands, and Castilla-La Mancha. The Rural Innovation Hub El Valenciano will be based in Andalusia. In Andalusia and the Canary Islands, the first course will begin at the end of August, and in Castilla-La Mancha in October. The courses are aimed at farmers and technicians and are a free initiative co-financed by the European Social Fund.
