PAUSA Operational Group: Research and open data platform on organic farming and agroecology, urban planning, land use planning, and sustainable food systems
- Type Operational group
- Status Filled
- Execution 2018 -2020
- Assigned Budget 46.500,00 €
- Scope Autonómico
- Autonomous community Madrid, Comunidad de
- Main source of financing PEPAC 2014-2020
- Project website GO PAUSA
Based on our experience as researchers, producers, and participants in alternative food networks, we have found that the lack of a clear channel for accessing information on research and studies on these topics is one of the causes of repeated research, which duplicates efforts and underutilizes the energy and time dedicated to research. Initiatives such as FAIR Data and the European Open Data Cloud aim to make scientific research and data accessible to the public.
- Generation of a collection of normalized and relational databases with information on entities and research
- Design and implementation of an online research platform based on open source programming.
- Collaborative data characterization prototype, based on the analysis of processes and tools used in standardization organizations for the generation of common vocabularies.
- Establishment of a network of experimental farms for the implementation of data collection and upload prototypes.
- Dissemination and communication plan.
Promote and support research and practices aimed at developing organic agricultural production, sustainable and local food systems, and land use planning adapted to local resources. It will launch a platform that facilitates access to research, studies, information, and results on these topics, taking into account the interests and needs of the primary and secondary sectors.
Once the activities of the Operational Group have been developed, it is expected:
- R1. A network of research groups and agents will have been established, with at least 25 participating entities.
- R2. A collection of databases of entities and research related to the topics covered by the Operational Group will have been generated.
- R3. The PAUSA Digital Research Platform will have been created and operational, with a category-based search engine and linked to a spatial data infrastructure (SDI) with links to documentary repositories of publications and data, with at least 200 geolocated entries.
- R4. A collaboration will have been established with at least 6 research centers or groups and with at least 4 farms spread throughout the Community of Madrid, which will operate as "experiential laboratory" farms, providing relevant data for PAUSA's areas of work.
- R5. A prototype for collaborative database generation in accordance with the FAIR standard will have been created, tested, and validated, along with an application that allows data collected in experiential laboratories or from applied research projects related to the agroecological sector to be incorporated into the platform.
- R6. A plan will be in place to integrate the platform and services into the IMIDRA structure. The platform includes an intuitive interface that allows easy access to results on farms with different ecological and agroecological farming practices.
