The MAPA allocates more than 37 million euros to finance 65 new innovative projects of supra-autonomous operational groups in the agri-food and forestry sector

Publication date: 08/08/2024

Description

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food has announced the funding of 65 new innovative projects in the agri-food and forestry sector, with a total investment of 37.3 million euros. The projects will be developed in several autonomous communities and will be running until May 2027.

Financing for innovative projects

The selected projects will be carried out by operational groups at a supra-regional level, supported by the European Association for Innovation in Agricultural Productivity and Sustainability (AEI-Agri or EIP). Following the publication of the resolution on 5 August, a period of 20 working days will open for the operational groups to request advances, which may cover up to 50% of the subsidy awarded.

Diversity of projects and participants

Of the 151 applications received, the most notable projects focus on plant production, livestock farming, the agri-food industry, and to a lesser extent, on the irrigation, forestry and rural development sectors. The three best-rated projects focus on extensive livestock farming and agrovoltaic systems for vines, with the participation of entities from various autonomous communities.

The participating entities include both private organisations and non-profit entities, such as the Wine Technology Platform Association (PTV), the Confederation of Spanish Frisian Associations (CONAFE), and the Galician University Business Foundation (FEUGA). In addition, there are scientific entities from different autonomous communities, such as the Centre for Agri-Food Research and Technology of Aragon (CITA) and the Murcian Institute for Agricultural and Food Research and Development (IMIDA).

Future prospects

Given the success of this call, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food has announced a new call for 2025, with an allocation of 46.25 million euros, the largest in the history of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) in Spain. This increase in funds will allow the financing of innovative projects that did not receive support in the previous call due to lack of resources and that will be able to update their application and submit it again.

It should be noted that the current amendment to the Strategic Plan of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) proposes increasing the allocation for supra-regional cooperation intervention from the initially scheduled 75 million euros to 83.75 million euros for the period 2023-2027.
