Application of an innovative tool for the conservation and improvement of the management of native chestnut variables in Galician groves

This Operational Group seeks to develop a GIS-based computer tool that allows the location of chestnut plots, perfectly georeferenced and identified and classified by the variety of chestnut present in them.

In this way, during the fruit harvesting campaign, homogeneous lots of chestnuts can be optimized by variety and type of final market, and the means of mechanized harvesting can be optimized, once it is known when they will ripen and where the plots with homogeneous varieties harvested are.

This application would be available to chestnut producers, would improve management, would improve the supply of annual production, perfectly classified in space, time and organized in homogeneous batches, and would increase the possibilities of signing stable supply contracts with buyers and the processing industry.
