This Operational Group was created to develop a novel, comprehensive forest management support system based on a local-level model that aims to comprehensively energize and enhance the value of forest resources across multiple economic, social, and cultural areas. The goal is to establish a local technical service that will coordinate, support, and incentivize the enhancement of the resource at the local level.
At the territorial level, the project demonstrates the viability of the proposed model with tangible and measurable results through indicators. It directly contributes to innovation in a key strategic sector in Galicia, comprehensively mobilizing the forestry production sector and providing it with a highly efficient tool designed for Galicia. It implements an interface between all stakeholders in the sector: owners, forestry communities, public administrations, associations, companies, entrepreneurs, citizens, researchers, investors, etc., enabling them to launch supply chains, improve the production structure, reduce costs, and mobilize resources that were previously unused.
Development of a software system that implements the PD model and fine-tuning of the proximity support service, subsequently allowing its application to other Councils/Municipal Chambers, thus creating a network in which the following are shared: resources, experiences, projects, actions, etc. SAXMEL will allow the full and optimal development of the forest resource from a local perspective, in which the generation of value among the residents of the Council prevails, in a totally transparent way, based on the participation of all social and economic agents, where environmental, economic, social or cultural aspects are permanently integrated into each and every one of the actions and projects that are carried out.
SAXMEL will make it possible to efficiently address serious problems such as forest fires, pests, and resource abandonment through the coordination of all stakeholders. SAXMEL allows for self-management and self-financing of the model without placing an additional burden on the limited capacities of the Municipal Councils/Chambers.
- A fully autonomous management model will be developed in all its aspects.
- A software tool will be developed that is easily adaptable to any other council.
- The territory will be transformed in those participating Councils/Municipal Chambers, which translates into: launching of at least 3 high-level projects that value resources from the mountains, entrepreneurship initiatives related to the resource will be created, local jobs will be generated, a net inflow of capital will be achieved in the Council aimed at its value and development of local economies, actions aimed at protecting mountains from fires and pests will be coordinated, the structure of ownership and existing forest infrastructure will be improved, among others, a repository of information will be created to share technical data as well as experiences.
