The objective of this Operational Group is to design a methodology that helps to plan the uses and exploitation of the Do Xalo common land in the Culleredo City Council and within the scope of the Mariñas Coruñesas e Terras Do Mandeo Biosphere Reserve.
Currently, these management plans have a main orientation focused on the monoculture of fast-growing species (mainly eucalyptus), which is why new guidelines are needed to promote a sustainable forest management model, with criteria based on timber use compatible with the environmental, social, cultural or sporting services produced by the forest (biodiversity, landscape, cultural heritage, fire prevention, social use, water purification, climate change mitigation or job creation in rural areas).
This methodology would serve to create a procedure to be applied in the Do Xalo common land initially, complementing the minimum requirements demanded by existing legislation at the regional level regarding the planning and management of forests.
