Operational Group: Design of a methodology for the management of the communal forest in the Xalo common land, considering the environmental services OF

  • Type Operational group
  • Execution 2017
  • Assigned Budget 498.819,00 €
  • Scope Autonómico
  • Autonomous community Galicia
  • Main source of financing PEPAC 2014-2020
Description

Currently, management plans are primarily focused on monocultures of fast-growing species (mainly eucalyptus). Therefore, new guidelines are needed to promote a sustainable forest management model, with criteria based on timber harvesting compatible with the environmental, social, cultural, and sporting services provided by the forest (biodiversity, landscape, cultural heritage, fire prevention, social use, water purification, climate change mitigation, and rural job creation).

This methodology would serve to create a procedure to be applied initially to the communal forest of Do Xalo, complementing the minimum requirements demanded by existing legislation at the regional level regarding the planning and management of forests.

Objectives

The objective of this Operational Group is to design a methodology that will help plan the uses and development of the communal forest in the Do Xalo area, in the Culleredo Municipality and within the scope of the Mariñas Coruñesas e Terras Do Mandeo Biosphere Reserve.
