INNOCASTANEA Operational Group: Innovation in forestry practices and sustainable chestnut management in Galicia

The objective of this Operational Group is to disseminate existing productive and ecological knowledge on chestnut production techniques in Galicia, evaluating from a productive perspective the plant production phase and selection of the most suitable varieties, including silvicultural establishment and care to improve chestnut production in both mature and new stands.

Among the landowners, it was detected that there is still a great need to know new aspects related to silvicultural management and fruit production (pruning, thinning, grafting, etc.) and in this way improve their productivity, and in some cases, can recover currently abandoned groves.
