Application of data analytics techniques for predicting olive grove production
The main objective of the Operational Group is the application of data analytics techniques to predict olive grove production, improving the crop's economic profitability and increasing olive growers' participation and market orientation. To this end, large volumes of data on the olive grove's natural resources (soil, climate, variety, etc.) and supplementary resources (irrigation, fertilization, phytosanitary products, etc.) will be analyzed. This will allow for the creation of statistical models of crop behavior and their extrapolation to predictive models that characterize favorable and unfavorable scenarios, thus facilitating prevention through early warning and proper management of crop resources. Based on informed decision-making, oil yield will be optimized at the lowest associated cost.
The project's expected outcomes are: a specific ICT tool for the olive sector that facilitates and improves farm management by olive growers using any internet-enabled device (PC, PDA, or mobile phone), and a proven, reliable farm data acquisition system based on data analytics. All project outputs and results will be transferred and disseminated within the olive and olive oil sectors, in particular, and across other sectors (horticulture, fruit production, ICT, etc.).
