Withdrawal of 'Single-use agricultural plastics' Agricultural soils and natural environments and high recovery of plastic waste through biotechnological degradation

Description

Innovative project of general supra-regional interest to increase: the collection, biotechnological biodegradation and on-farm valorisation of SINGLE-USE polluting agroplastics (low-density polyethylene LDPE and very low-density polyethylene).

Objectives

Demonstrate the technical and economic viability of collecting and recovering on-farm agroplastics (APs) from agricultural and agro-industrial activities.

Carrying out experiments in 3 production plants for technical-economic demonstration of the proposed solution.

Demonstrate that savings are achieved in water and electricity consumption to obtain high-value products.

Characterize the byproducts and waste derived from the biodegradation process.

Quantifying the reduction of CO2 emissions, bioeconomic impact, job creation and sustainability.

Results
  • Turning the removal and on-farm management of APs into a profitable activity for the end user.
  • Development of 5 experimental plans for APs degradation/conversion by biotechnological mixes.
  • Water and energy consumption savings compared to 3 conventional AP recycling methods.
  • Utilization of by-products: manure, chitin and amino acids.
  • Obtaining a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.Creating potential employment in Spain. Recruiting 5 entrepreneurial projects.
