AP-WASTE Operational Group: Removal of 'Single-Use Agroplastics' Agricultural soils and natural environments and high valorization of plastic waste through biotechnological degradation

Description

Innovative project of general interest supra-autonomous to Increase: the collection, biotechnological biodegradation and on-farm recovery of polluting SINGLE-USE Agroplastics (low-density polyethylene LDPE and very low-density polyethylene)

Objectives
  • Demonstrate the technical and economic viability of collecting and recovering agricultural plastics (APs) from agricultural and agro-industrial activities on the farm.
  • Carrying out experiments in three production plants to demonstrate the technical and economic results of the proposed solution.
  • Demonstrate that savings in water and electricity consumption are achieved to obtain high-value products
  • Characterize the byproducts and waste derived from the biodegradation process
  • Quantitatively demonstrate the reduction in CO2 emissions, the bioeconomic impact, job creation, and sustainability
Results
  • Turning the removal and on-farm management of APs into a profitable activity for the end user
  • Development of 5 experimental plans for the degradation/conversion of APs by biotechnological mixes
  • Savings in water and energy consumption compared to 3 conventional AP recycling methods
  • Utilization of by-products: manure, chitin, and amino acids
  • Achieving a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. Potential job creation in Spain.
  • Recruitment of 5 entrepreneurial projects
