Description

VITICAST aims to provide innovative solutions (warning tools) for the prediction of fungal diseases in vineyards to optimize production and the sustainable development of vine cultivation.

Objectives
  • Determine the beginning of the different phenological phases in the selected study areas based on the grape variety
  • Establish prediction models for the quantity of fungal spores in the vineyard atmosphere necessary for infection to occur
  • Develop specific algorithms for each Denomination of Origin with the meteorological data recorded in the vineyards that allow identifying the opportune moments for possible attacks by phytopathogenic fungi
  • Establish a warning station for possible phytopathogenic fungal infections in each of the Designations of Origin studied
  • Optimize the number of phytosanitary treatments in viticulture, which will result in a reduction in production costs, an increase in wine quality and better protection of the environment
Results
  • Obtaining phytoclimatic models of the evolution of the phenological phases for each plot under study and for each grape variety
  • Creation of a general spore prediction model for each phytopathogen
  • Establishment of infection thresholds for each of the fungi for the warning tool based on climatic, phenological and spore concentration conditions in the atmosphere
  • Fungal Disease Warning Tool
  • Quantification of the improvement in wine quality by comparing multi-residue analyses carried out on control plots and on plots where phytosanitary treatments have been applied without taking into account the warnings issued by the tool proposed in this project
