Description
FAGUS promotes, through innovation in forest management and technical development in product classification and characterization, the revaluation of beech wood, generating local bioeconomy.
Objectives
Improve applied beech forestry. Empower owners, managers and loggers with innovative tools for economic valorisation of beech forests. Implement industry-validated classification technologies and standards for the different products existing in the forest-industry value chain. Develop a new structural LVL product from beech veneers. Create a trans-regional Beech Roundtable that includes all the agents in the value chain.
Results
Quantitative inventory and obtaining of a representative sample of beech stands at a national levelDevelopment of tools for calculating and classifying beech wood volumes based on the morphological characteristics of the standing tree, based on the use of airborne and terrestrial LiDAR and photogrammetry. Creation of tools for assigning technological quality to beech, forest stands and standing trees using non-destructive techniquesStandardization of potential qualities of beech wood according to destination products along the forest-industry value chainCreation of a new beech LVL product for use in structuresDevelopment of an interregional table for the promotion of beech wood with the different agents involved
