Description

INTERFAZ promotes the establishment of management measures and the exploitation of the productive potential of the territory as tools to minimize risks caused by biotic and abiotic disturbances in the rural areas and the urban-forest interface.

Objectives
  • Create open data-based tools that enable management of the urban-forest interface and the environment of rural areas, minimizing the risk caused by disturbances to agroforestry operations.
  • Generate sustainable management alternatives that minimize fires and other disturbances in these areas, taking advantage of the territory's productive potential.
  • Improve cooperation between stakeholders responsible for territorial management, innovation agents, and the agroforestry production network.
  • Cooperation and outreach to the rural population.
Results
  • Remote data collection and processing for the classification of current and potential uses and the delimitation and design of protection actions and evacuation plans. An automated post-processing system for LiDAR data captured by drones, a web app for developing self-protection plans against forest-urban interfaces (FUIs), and training on forest biomass management in the FUI (wildland-urban interface).
  • Maps of potential, suitability, and prediction of future presence of forest species. Quantification and valuation of ecosystem services from the IUF, a web viewer for consulting generated maps, development of innovative territorial and social management models, and fuel reduction in IUF areas.
  • Training in the agroforestry and livestock sector. Establishment of a viability plan for a small, self-managed business managed by shepherds responsible for maintaining the urban-wildland interface.
  • Cooperation between stakeholders involved in the primary value chain of products obtained from the urban-wildland interface.
