Healthy Soils for Productive and Climate-Resilient Agriculture

The Fertiberia Chair of Agro-Environmental Studies will hold its 16th conference on April 10th under the theme "Healthy Soils for Productive and Climate-Resilient Agriculture." The event, which will take place at the ETSIAAB (Educational Institute of Agriculture and Fisheries) in Madrid, seeks to explore innovative strategies and technologies that improve agricultural productivity without compromising soil health or the sector's profitability. It will feature the participation of leading experts and an institutional address by Elena Busutil , Director General of Agricultural Production and Markets at the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food . During the conference, key topics will be addressed, such as the role of carbon in agricultural soils , the importance of the microbiome for fertility , and the impact of microorganism-based fertilizers on human health. Additionally, specialists from institutions such as CEBAS-CSIC , the University of Lisbon , and the Ministry of Health will share their knowledge on biotechnology and soil regeneration. An innovative soil digitization project in Spain using artificial intelligence will also be presented. The event will conclude with a presentation by Augusto Arce , director of the Fertiberia Chair , and a cocktail reception to encourage the exchange of ideas among attendees. Moderated by Luis Montoto Rojo , this event will establish itself as a leading forum for discussing agricultural sustainability and soil conservation in the context of climate change. Innovation and economic efficiency in the mechanization and production of EVOO

This conference presents the objectives and initial results of a pilot project to study the technical application of mechanized olive pruning in the main olive-producing areas of Catalonia. This project aims to determine its effectiveness in optimizing vegetative growth and production, comparing it with manual pruning at the agronomic, productive, and economic levels. The production results of an experimental trial with the three main olive oil production systems: intensive, high-density, and super-intensive are also presented. On March 12, a day will be held to disseminate the results of the GO UBAVIDA project (Sustainable strategies from the vineyard to the winery to obtain grapes with low sugar concentration and dealcoholized wine) in hybrid format, online and in person at the Emina Ribera winery (Carretera de San Bernardo s/n, 47359 Valbuena de Duero, Valladolid). Contents: Idiomatic perception of non-alcoholic wine. Communication of results of wine descriptors and non-alcoholic wine for future consumers UBAVIDA technical advances: Results of the different protocols for the production of dealcoholized wines in Rías Baixas. Innovation in agronomic and oenological practices. Vinification with grapes with lower sugar content. Polyphenols and agronomic and oenological strategies for wine dealcoholization. Soil improvement in vineyards

The objective of this technical workshop is to deepen knowledge of the mechanisms that facilitate soil improvement, the factors that increase organic matter, understand how they work and how we can enhance them, as well as point out which practices can be negative. The results of studies on vineyard soil management, carried out by INCAVI, will be presented with the aim of defining sustainable strategies that promote the quality of grapes and wine. IRTA will consider introducing new molecular analysis technologies that allow us to understand soil biology, better understand how it works, and improve its management. Furthermore, the natural mechanisms that plants use to obtain nutrients and other benefits through active exchanges with soil microbiology will be presented. PROGRAM | REGISTRATION

V EVOO International Forum Fira de Tots Sants Cocentaina 2025

The Catholic Agricultural Cooperative COOP. V. de Cocentaina , in collaboration with the Fira de Tots Sants, Cocentaina City Council , is organizing the fifth International EVOO Forum, Technical Conference and EVOO Competition. For the fifth consecutive year, this event will bring together the Extra Virgin Olive Oil sector for three days in Cocentaina (Alicante). Interesting technical sessions that include round tables and conferences, showcookings and tastings with the interaction of the public and, as a central activity, the International EVOO Competition, whose prizes will be awarded on the third and last day of the event, Friday, January 31, 2025. These awards are given by the prestigious Official Tasting Panel of the Valencian Community in five categories: three awards in the general category and two special awards: for the best organic EVOO and the best EVOO of the Valencian Community. These awards are completed with the recognition of the organization to different personalities or entities for their work in promoting and defending Extra Virgin Olive Oil. On Wednesday, January 29, the "AOVE in feminine: women protagonists in the cooperative economic model" conference will take place, organized by the Association of Women of Agro-food Cooperatives of Spain (AMCAE) and financed by the MAPA. The Cocentaina Cooperative received the Agro-food Cooperatives of Spain Award in 2021, in the Equal Opportunities category. New consumer trends are evolving rapidly, driven by changes in technology, sustainability and consumer preferences.
