The "5 a day" Association is holding its 17th "5 a day" Professional Conference under the motto "Transforming the consumption of the future: health, fruit and vegetables". The event will take place in Madrid, on March 7 at 9:30 a.m., at the Mercamadrid Administrative Center. All sectors of the agri-food sector are invited to a day full of knowledge, networking and new opportunities.

Once again, it will be a must-attend event and a point of reference for the international gathering of the sector, as well as a broad showcase of the latest machinery and technologies applied to the industry, and an excellent business platform. Once again, it will coincide with the International Exhibition of Machinery and Equipment for Wineries and Bottling ( ENOMAQ ), for Olive Oil Mills and Packaging ( OLEOMAQ ) and for the Brewing Industry ( E-BEER ). The content of the different halls offers important synergies in an unbeatable commercial showcase with the latest in machinery and technology applied to the industry. If you wish, you can exhibit equipment for both the viticulture and olive growing sectors. In this edition, the digitalization of the exhibitors' procedures is maintained, including the pre-registration form , to make this process much easier.

The Catholic Agricultural Cooperative COOP. V. de Cocentaina , in collaboration with the Fira de Tots Sants, Cocentaina City Council , is organizing the fifth International EVOO Forum, Technical Conference and EVOO Competition. For the fifth consecutive year, this event will bring together the Extra Virgin Olive Oil sector for three days in Cocentaina (Alicante). Interesting technical sessions that include round tables and conferences, showcookings and tastings with the interaction of the public and, as a central activity, the International EVOO Competition, whose prizes will be awarded on the third and last day of the event, Friday, January 31, 2025. These awards are given by the prestigious Official Tasting Panel of the Valencian Community in five categories: three awards in the general category and two special awards: for the best organic EVOO and the best EVOO of the Valencian Community. These awards are completed with the recognition of the organization to different personalities or entities for their work in promoting and defending Extra Virgin Olive Oil. On Wednesday, January 29, the "AOVE in feminine: women protagonists in the cooperative economic model" conference will take place, organized by the Association of Women of Agro-food Cooperatives of Spain (AMCAE) and financed by the MAPA. On December 10, 2024, at the University of Huelva, the HIDRONUT_SAT Operational Group (GO) “Application of high-resolution satellite images from the Copernicus program in the management of nutrition and irrigation in citrus crops” will present its objectives and progress during the ATTENTIA project Dissemination Day. This meeting will feature the researcher from the University of Huelva, Alberto Zabalo and Carlos Chacón, from the Department of Field – PRL – García Carrión 1.890 SL, members of the HIDRONUT Operational Group , to bring together objectives and advances deployed in this initiative. It should be noted that through this innovative initiative, the Andalusian citrus sector will have access to new digital tools to optimize water and nutrient management, and improve decision-making for the economic and environmental sustainability of producers and industry, improving traceability and transparency in transactions between the links in the production chain. GO HIDRONUT is formed by García Carrión 1890 and the Campus of International Excellence in Agro-Food Consortium (ceiA3) together with the research group ' Integrated management of agricultural and natural resources | AGR-227 ' of the University of Huelva, with the collaboration of the Association for Rural Development of Western Andévalo-Adrao. The Plant Health and Certification Service is the technical unit that carries out the functions of control and certification of seeds and nursery plants, the management of surveillance and control plans for plant pests and diseases, the marketing and use of phytosanitary products and their evaluation, and technical advice to the production sector on plant health and seed production.

The VIII Technical Forum on Plant Health organized by the Center for Plant Health and Certification will take place on November 28 in the Auditorium of the Mediterranean Agricultural Institute of Zaragoza

Within the framework of the First Strategic Plan for Organic Production in La Rioja, the Department of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural World and Environment is organizing a technical and field workshop: Organic olive grove management. Experimental farm at La Grajera farm , aimed at farmers and technicians. Its objective is to delve into the agronomic management of olive cultivation in organic production: varieties, planting frames, pest and disease management, fertilization, cultural practices, harvesting... The olive grove and the institutional organic oil mill of the La Grajera estate will be visited . On October 29, the Demofarm technical conference will be held in Andalusia, focusing on "Digital transformation tools in citrus." The event will offer participants a practical overview of the latest technologies applied to citrus cultivation , with a guided tour of Finca Mogollón , where innovative monitoring and sensor solutions have been implemented to optimize water management and pest control. Digital tools for citrus cultivation Technologies to be presented include irrigation network monitoring, digital traps for the detection of Ceratitis Capitata , soil and plant sensors, and the use of satellite imaging platforms . The Demofarm Andalucía technical team, together with Tragsatec , will guide attendees throughout the day, explaining how these tools work and their benefits for more efficient management of farms. The day will end with an assessment of the implementation of these technologies by Daniel Esquivel, a technician at CRESCASA's Finca Mogollón, who will share his experience in the digitalization of citrus cultivation. Fruit Attraction is the meeting point for fruit and vegetable professionals. Fruit Attraction has become the reference commercial tool for the WORLDWIDE marketing of fruit and vegetables . Its capacity to promote global exports in the sector makes it the commercial connection point for all the professionals that make up the entire value chain, in addition to having consolidated itself as a framework for innovation in the fruit and vegetable market.

The Andalusian Living Lab is established as an entity aimed at promoting and implementing innovative and sustainable technological solutions aimed at improving the health of olive grove soil. It is part of the European LIVINGSOILL project (Healthy Soil to Permanent Crops Living Labs) funded with 12 million euros, of which 2 million are destined for Andalusian olive groves. The University of Jaén will be responsible for coordinating this Living Lab, which also includes 15 Andalusian entities with recognised R&D&I activity related to olive growing. The programme for the presentation event includes three round tables that will focus on the following topics: Soil health, challenges and ecosystem services. Innovation projects: Utilization of olive grove by-products within the framework of the circular economy. Pilot experiences of olive oil companies aimed at improving soil health. In addition, a conference will be held on digitalisation in the olive sector.

On September 18, the Cortijo El Puerto farm, located in Lora del Río, Seville , will be the setting for the presentation of the results of the Tic4bio operating group, with an innovative ICT tool designed to improve the efficient management of water and biodiversity in the agricultural sector. This project seeks to integrate digitalization into agri-food processes, optimizing the use of natural resources and promoting sustainability. In this way, decision-making will be favored both to make efficient use of irrigation water and water used in agroindustry, and to calculate the degree of biodiversity on the farm and be able to improve it, responding to the environmental concern and conservation of natural resources of the most demanding market. The event, organised by Ecovalia and other entities in the sector, will begin at 10:00 am with the opening by leading figures in the field of agriculture and innovation. Speakers will include Cristina de Toro Navero , from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development; Álvaro Barrera Fernández , president of Ecovalia; Lola de Toro Jordano , manager of CeiA3; Emilio Camacho Poyato , from the University of Córdoba; Enrique de la Torre Liébana , CEO of Ingeoliva; and Pablo Reina López , responsible for the development of the ICT tool at Dacartec. At 10:30 a.m., Auxiliadora Vecina Jiménez , director of Innovation and Training at Ecovalia, will present the operating group and a documentary showing the development of the project. Later, at 10:45 a.m., researcher Carmen Flores Cayuela from the University of Córdoba will share the results obtained by this innovative project. The day will continue at 11:30 a.m. with a guided tour of the pilot experience, led by Enrique de la Torre , where attendees will be able to see first-hand how the "tic4bio" tool contributes to a more efficient use of water and biodiversity in crops. Finally, at 12:30 p.m., there will be a tasting of Cortijo El Puerto oils and a tasting of organic foods , highlighting local and sustainable products. The Union of Farmers and Ranchers of La Rioja (UAGR) has organized a day dedicated to the presentation of the InnovAC-Eco Project , dedicated to studying the presence of phytosanitary residues in olive oils, originating from drifts of applications on other crops, focusing on the herbicidal active ingredient Prosulfocarb. Even if the maximum limits authorized for consumption are not exceeded, their mere presence does represent an impediment to the certification of organic oils , thus reducing their profitability. Technology to prevent drift from phytosanitary treatments Within the framework of this project, a prototype technology capable of detecting product drift in real time has been developed. The work has also served to raise awareness among cereal growers about the drift caused by their treatments. No prior registration is required.
