Description

Wine Conference of Agro-Food Cooperatives of Spain

Ourense will host the Wine Conference organized by the Spanish Agri-Food Cooperatives on June 25th and 26th. The event will address current challenges in the wine sector and share successful experiences in the cooperative model. Sponsored by Santander Agro , the event will bring together institutional representatives, technicians, and industry leaders.

The first day, Wednesday, June 25, will be dedicated to learning firsthand about the vineyards managed directly by the Viña Costeira cooperative in the province of Ourense. Attendees will be able to visit the vineyard and analyze how the cooperative-member-vineyard model works, guided by Carlos Alberte Pérez , Director of Viticulture at Viña Costeira SCG, and Andrés Rodríguez Gómez , president of the cooperative.

On Thursday, June 26, a comprehensive technical conference will be held with various presentations analyzing the present and future of the wine sector. The event will begin with a presentation and objectives by Fernando Ezquerro , president of the Wine Sector Council of Agri-Food Cooperatives of Spain.

Also participating in the opening will be Rocío Pazos , Territorial Director of Galicia for Santander Agro, and Martín Alemparte , Director of the Galician Food Quality Agency (Agacal).

The sectoral support measures included in the "wine package" will then be discussed from different perspectives. Alejandro Lorca , Deputy Director General of Fruits and Vegetables and Viticulture at the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food, will present the MAPA's vision, while Emma Castro, Director of the Viticulture Department of Cooperativas Agro-alimentarias de España, will present the organization's position.

Also participating will be Susana García, Director General of the Spanish Interprofessional Wine Organization (OIVE), who will analyze the Interprofessional's current actions in response to the sector's challenges.

Results of the SUPPORT project survey on vineyard pest management

Juan Sagarna , director of the Sustainability and Innovation Projects Department at Cooperativas Agro-alimentarias de España, will present the results of the SUPPORT survey for winegrowers and discuss the digital phytosanitary product notebook.

As part of the European SUPPORT project , a survey was launched in 2024 for farmers and cooperatives, focusing on pest management in vineyards, olive groves, and strawberries. This initiative sought to gather opinions on current and future plant health practices, with the aim of providing Brussels with a realistic picture of the sector's needs.

One of the key areas of the project has been vineyards. Cooperativas Agro-alimentarias de España, a project partner, coordinates information related to this crop at the European level. This work is part of the SUPPORT project's efforts to promote the use of integrated production in Europe, gathering information that will be useful to EU authorities in promoting policies in this direction.

These sessions represent a unique opportunity to reflect on the future of cooperative vineyards, share innovative experiences, and strengthen the commitment to a more sustainable and competitive wine sector.
