Online course: Management of vegetal covers in organic production
Description
There is a growing interest among farmers to increase knowledge about the management of plant covers to achieve maximum effectiveness. On the one hand, adventitious weeds are generally presented as the main reluctance to convert to organic, since they require a lot of labor to control. On the other hand, there is a lack of knowledge on how to introduce and manage a selection of species for vegetal covers that provide benefits.
The covers have multiple functions in the agroecosystem: protection against erosion, increase in biodiversity, thermal and water regulation, etc. It is necessary to understand this multifunctionality to achieve correct management, choosing the most appropriate installation and conservation options.
This course brings together the knowledge and practical experiences of recognized experts from all over Spain, in the management of covers in the main organic crops, both irrigated and dryland, so it offers useful and proven learning.

• Know the different species of covers, their seasonality, the benefits they provide, as well as their multifunctionality in organic agriculture.
• Identify the different management systems for vegetation covers.
• Design and schedule the installation and conservation of green roofs.
