20-hour theoretical-practical course taught in person from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. between June 17 and 20 in Cenicientos (Madrid). Organized by IMIDRA (Madrid Institute for Rural, Agricultural and Food Research and Development)

PROGRAM:

Theoretical training (15 hours)

  • Basic legislation
  • Activities and machinery that generate fire risks in agriculture and livestock farming. Real case studies
  • Good preventive practices in agricultural and livestock work
  • Ecological effects of a fire
  • Physics of fire
  • Behavior of agricultural or forest fires and their factors
  • Types and parts of a fire. Positioning
  • Basic Actions. Attack Methods
  • Manual and mechanical tools for forest fire extinguishing
  • Lines of defense. Construction and liquidation
  • Agricultural machinery used for extinguishing a fire. Working system
  • Safety in forest fire fighting

Practices (5 hours)

  • Direct attack: use of hand tools in agricultural and forest fires
  • Shovel-hoe and backpack-fire-fighter tool kits
  • Cutting tools. Safety and handling: pulasky, tajamatas, chainsaw
  • Indirect attack: Construction of defense line, security and coordination
  • Handling and maintenance of tools
  • Use of cutting, digging and scraping tools
  • Safety position when unloading aerial means
