Description

20-hour afternoon course aimed at drivers or carers of road vehicles that transport domestic animals of the equine, bovine, ovine, caprine and porcine species or poultry, for journeys exceeding 65 km, as well as staff at assembly centres, in accordance with Community Regulation 1/2005 of the Council, of December 22, 2004.

Training Plan:

  • Common module:
    UNIT 1: Knowledge and handling of animals: Anatomy, physiology and behavior.
    UNIT 2: Concept of animal welfare. Stress.
    Unit 3: Social aspects of animal welfare: economic and ethical factors.
    UNIT 4: Livestock facilities and equipment.
    UNIT 5: Animal transport. Cleaning and disinfection of vehicles.
    Unit 6: Animal welfare legislation. Infringements and sanctions.
    Unit 7: Safety and hygiene at work. Personal protective equipment.
    Unit 8: Relationship between animal welfare and food safety and CAP reform.
    UNIT 9: Animal Health.
    UNIT 10: Animal welfare in slaughterhouses: slaughter and killing of animals.
  • Specific module:
    UNIT 1: Suitability of animals for transport. Feed supply needs,
    water. Travel and rest times.
    UNIT 2: Animal transport: loading and unloading. Facilities.
    UD 3: Emergency care for animals. Contingency plans. Sacrifice of
    emergency.
    UD 4: Documentation for transport: authorizations, records and documentation of
    animals. Logbook.
    Unit 5: Means of transport: characteristics and design.
    UD 6: Transport on long journeys. Checkpoints. Impact of driving on the road.
    behaviour and welfare of transported animals and the quality of the meat.
    Unit 7: Legislation on the transport of live animals. Infringements and sanctions.
    Unit 8: Road safety. Actions of the carrier in the event of an accident.
    UNIT 9: Practices.
    UD 10: Final aptitude test.
