Abstract

The implementation of biodiversity margins represents a high degree of innovation in farm management and a clear improvement in traditional production processes, as it involves the integration of green infrastructure into the agronomic management of farms. This represents a significant step forward in the sustainable management of agroecosystems, especially in traditional sectors such as dryland herbaceous crops, where the introduction of multifunctional margins represents a significant innovation compared to traditional production methods.

The implementation of MMF also means providing the agricultural sector with a new tool to achieve the objectives of the European Union Biodiversity Strategy for 2030, which, among other aspects, sets the goal of ensuring that at least 10% of agricultural land is occupied by high-value landscape elements.

The implementation of the technological tool proposed by the project, which will assist farmers in this process, reaffirms the substantial technological advancement and innovative nature of the proposal.

Objectives

The project "Sowing Biodiversity. Bases for the implementation and monitoring of multifunctional margins within the framework of the new eco-schemes" has the general objective of proposing bases for the implementation and monitoring of multifunctional margins within the framework of the new eco-schemes. This will facilitate the large-scale adoption of this good agricultural practice and its oversight by the Administration through the development of a technological tool to assist with monitoring and decision-making.

Results
  1. Optimization of a methodology for the implementation of multifunctional margins in Andalusia in the context of voluntary CAP measures;
  2. Creation of a network of collaborating farms for the evaluation of the proposed methodology under real-life growing conditions;
  3. Implementation of a monitoring system to ensure the correct implementation of multifunctional margins within the framework of eco-schemes;
  4. Development of a technological tool for decision-making and monitoring the implementation of multifunctional margins;
  5. Promoting the circular bioeconomy through greater development of multifunctional margins by the agricultural sector.
