HEMP Operational Group: Standardization of industrial hemp in Spain, cultivation and processing

Description

This Task Force aims to unify criteria among administrations, industry stakeholders, and the general public, which is necessary to create a sustainable hemp industry.

Fiber and seed production presents no problem other than the lack of processing centers that would make the crop profitable and, therefore, allow for the expansion of the cultivation area. Furthermore, regulations are needed for the production of dietary supplements or "novel foods" that include cannabinoids in their formulations, as this is a de facto reality in the global market. Cannabinoid-based products that cannot be classified as dietary supplements will be relegated to the pharmaceutical category. The aforementioned regulations (Royal Decree 1729/1999, of November 12) are outdated, incomplete, and difficult to comply with.

An innovative idea will be created that can bring together all relevant information on the industrial hemp production process, with a simple and practical interface that facilitates its use by producers.

Objectives
  • Unify criteria among administrations, industry stakeholders, and the general public to create a sustainable hemp industry.
