Description
Citrus identification is the main basis for varietal management and planning, and constitutes a pressing problem for the citrus industry.
This Task Force promotes the creation of a varietal authentication unit, along with the development of a decision-making support tool for choosing the most appropriate variety.
These tools represent a great opportunity for the innovative and sustainable development of the citrus sector.
Objectives
- Reorganize and define the varietal foundations on which to base the citrus revolution toward which our production and export sectors are headed due to the imperatives and demands of new market relations.
- Generation of an identification system supported by the Citruseq genomic database.
- Creation of an app to assist the production sector in decision-making regarding variety selection, considering their specific crop characteristics.
Results
- Eliminating errors in the acquisition of plant material.
- Improving producer competitiveness and traceability through certification at every point in the value chain.
- Support for varietal diversification and the restructuring and modernization of farms.
- Promoting more efficient and responsible use of resources.
- Reducing the current abandonment of plots and improving landscape preservation with fully productive farms.
- Contribute to reducing erosion and improving soil and biodiversity conservation.
