MCETM. Establishment of measures against the advance of Tecia Solanivora in the biosphere reserve

This Task Force aims to establish measures that contribute to and complement those already adopted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food and Environment and the Department of Rural Affairs to combat the spread of Tecia solanivora.

The penetration of the pest into the geographical area of the biosphere reserve and its spread to other areas of Galicia will be prevented by implementing a surveillance system to detect the possible spread of the pest both in the field and in potato collection or marketing points; setting up traps and field monitoring; raising awareness among the population to restrict potato cultivation and intensifying surveillance; disseminating the control and eradication measures approved by the competent administrations: phytosanitary methods of control, procedures for the destruction of contaminated tubers, etc.; collaboration with technicians from the regional agricultural offices with jurisdiction in the areas defined in this regard regarding the measures adopted by the regional administration; notification to the technical staff of the agricultural offices in the event of detecting any anomaly; creation of a georeferenced database, a geographic information system in which the surveillance work carried out would be located as well as any detected incidents.
