Creation of the Operational Group for the promotion of forage production in Gran Canaria (October 2017).

Objectives

Its general objective is to achieve the objectives detailed in the Gran Canaria Forage Plan:

  • Increase forage production by increasing the area devoted to cultivation and the economic performance of farms.
  • Reduce dependence on foreign sources for the supply of fodder in Gran Canaria.
  • Maintain the production of quality forage on farms and in traditional agropastoral systems.
  • Facilitate the entry of appropriately trained farmers into the agricultural sector, particularly generational renewal.
  • Improve the technical development of the entire forage production process.
  • Establish a catalogue of forage species, both local and introduced varieties, characterized from an agronomic and yield perspective, assessing production costs economically based on the intrinsic characteristics of the crop, geographical location, and specific conditions of the farm.
  • Study and disseminate the botanical composition of agrosilvopastoral systems, establishing proposals to improve their composition and/or quality.
  • To study and disseminate processing and storage techniques for the various forages that can be grown in Gran Canaria.
