Incorporation of olive pits as a reinforcement in biodegradable thermoplastics to obtain new plastic compounds suitable for the production of products and components such as secondary packaging for olive oil.
The objective of this project is to valorize olive pits through their use in bioplastic compounds, enabling the development of applications with greater added value than the current use of olive pits as fuel in incineration processes.
To this end, a new material, OLIPLAST, will be created, which will be completely environmentally friendly, both thanks to its olive pit filler and the selection and use of biodegradable, non-fossil-derived plastic materials. The overall objective of the project is to develop a plastic compound formulated from thermoplastics from renewable sources, along with filler/reinforcement from olive pits, suitable for use in the production of products and components, such as secondary packaging for the main product, olive oil. This will ensure that both the product and the packaging meet the global commitment to organic and sustainable agriculture and production.
- Optimization of the olive pit milling process to obtain a homogeneous sample.
- Obtaining the OLiPLAST material and studying its creep behavior.
- Environmental study of the process of incorporating olive pits into biodegradable plastic material to obtain new products, compared to its use as biomass in an energy recovery process.
