Description
Significantly increase avocado productivity by promoting proper expansion of the crop into new areas, transferring technology related to cultivation techniques, plant material, and biological control.
Objectives
- Define the appropriate areas for the expansion of avocado cultivation, promoting its implementation in an environmentally sustainable manner and with maximum productivity.
- Transfer of avocado cultivation techniques.
- Increase the adoption of appropriate plant material, rootstocks and varieties, in the different soil and climate conditions of Spain.
- Consolidation of an avocado innovation community in Spain, which serves as a benchmark and meets the social, environmental and economic needs of the communities in which avocado cultivation is carried out.
Results
- Definition and delimitation of the optimal geographical area for the efficient cultivation of avocado in the Valencian Community, Cadiz and Malaga (Cartographic Map: https://goaguacatespain.com/mapa/ ).
- Implementation of new cultural techniques for pruning, pollination, improving fruit quality, irrigation, fertilization and plant health.
- Improvement of varietal and rootstock diversity in 40 plots in the pilot area of the project and in its area of influence, as well as in the experimental farm of Sinyent in Valencia (AVA) and the IHSM La Mayora, in Malaga.
- Dissemination of the findings and new technologies developed in the project.
