Description
Significantly increase avocado productivity by promoting the successful expansion of the crop into new areas and transferring technology related to cultivation techniques, plant material, and biological control.
Objectives
- Define the appropriate areas for the expansion of avocado cultivation, promoting its implementation in an environmentally sustainable manner and with maximum productivity.
- Transfer of avocado cultivation techniques.
- Increase the adoption of appropriate plant material, rootstocks and varieties, in the different soil and climate conditions of Spain.
- Consolidation of an avocado innovation community in Spain, which serves as a benchmark and meets the social, environmental and economic needs of the communities in which avocado cultivation is carried out.
Results
- Definition and delimitation of the optimal geographical area for efficient avocado cultivation in the Valencian Community, Cádiz, and Málaga (Cartographic Map: https://goaguacatespain.com/mapa/).
- Implementation of new cultural techniques for pruning, pollination, fruit quality improvement, irrigation, fertilization, and plant health.
- Improving varietal and rootstock diversity in 40 plots in the project's pilot area and surrounding area, as well as in the Sinyent experimental farm in Valencia (AVA) and the IHSM La Mayora in Malaga.
- Dissemination of the conclusions and new technologies developed in the project.
