INNOBANDAS

Innovative health project on pine needle bands in Cantabria, Navarra and the Basque Country

Description

INNOBANDAS promotes the application of innovative techniques to sustainably solve the health problem known as “needle bands” that progressively and increasingly affect pine stands.

Objectives
  • To verify the effectiveness in our forests of the innovative techniques used in New Zealand, Chile and those developed by our research centres for the control of needle banding.
  • Analyze the economic and environmental sustainability of the techniques indicated above.
  • Develop and implement innovative techniques for efficient systematic prospecting, defoliation assessment and measurement of results.
  • Minimize the economic damage caused to pine forest managers by needle band disease.
Results
  • Increase in green needle density and wood volume growth after carrying out the tests.
  • Evaluation of the quantity of product used in the tests that is detected in the surface waters and soil of the area.
  • Establishing the accuracy and costs of each prospecting technique, evaluating defoliation and measuring results.
