The tenth edition of the technical conference "Vineyard cultivation and grape quality" will take place on February 27 at the Palacio de Villachica Winery, Peñafiel (Valladolid). The event will feature the participation of Enrique Pascual, President of the CRDO Ribera del Duero and, among other topics, AI and its application in precision viticulture or the future of viticulture in the DO Ribera del Duero will be addressed. IN-PERSON event, within the framework of the Meat Attraction fair, where the main conclusions of the Observatory on the state of digital transformation in the meat industry will be presented, followed by a round table discussion with experts from the sector. Digitalisation of the meat industry is essential. Maintaining competitiveness in meat production today means having the ability to respond to the demands of a global and constantly changing market without losing quality and agility . All this while doing it in a sustainable way. The Observatory of the Digitalization of the Spanish Agri-Food Sector is a project promoted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, in which Grupo Cajamar collaborates, whose objective is to promote the state of digital transformation in agri-food businesses. The main conclusions of the Observatory on the state of digital transformation in the meat industry will be presented at the Meat Attraction fair, followed by a round table discussion with industry experts.

The closing event of the Supra-autonomous Operative Group Rebo2Vino “Circular economy for the reuse of glass bottles in the wine sector: Analysis of impacts and feasibility, and design of digital tools” will take place on February 26 in Madrid, where the main results and conclusions drawn will be reviewed. The project ends in March 2025 and has lasted almost 29 months of execution, during which two pilot tests have been developed (in Catalonia and Jerez) and all the impact categories of the Life Cycle Analysis have been analysed to determine the environmental and economic viability of implementing a potential reuse model in the wine sector. In addition, the main barriers and critical points have been identified, and a series of tools have been developed that will be helpful for future implementation at a national level. The Spanish Wine Federation (FEV) has made a very positive assessment of this project, considered strategic for the sector at a national level, and which lays the foundations for continuing to advance and scale up the results at a European level. We would like to thank the General Directorate of Rural Development, Innovation and Agri-Food Training for supporting this Operational Group, whose financing through the EU Next Generation Funds has been key to the development of the project and achieving the expected results. The closing ceremony is scheduled for 1:00 p.m., followed by an aperitif during which the pilot wines will be displayed with the reusable bottle designed in the project.

Once again, the fruit conference will be held, focusing on sustainable apple production and featuring presentations by leading international experts in the sector. The talks will cover key aspects such as the role of chill hours, the latest innovations in plant material, improving fruit quality and control strategies for Halyomorpha halys and Glomerella. This is a relevant opportunity to acquire advanced knowledge and share experiences with other professionals in the sector. Part of the information corresponds to the demonstration activity “ClimaFruit: Effects of climate change on apple and pear cultivation in Catalonia throughout the 21st century”, an activity co-financed by the EU through intervention 7201 of PEPAC 2023-2027. The Agricultural and Agri-Food Technology Centre ( ITAGRA ) is organizing the conference “Agrovoltaics = energy + crops. A double use of the land” , which will take place on Wednesday, February 26 at the Palace of the Provincial Council of Palencia. Experts in the subject will talk about the current state of this technology, the financing of projects, and the innovative examples that exist in Castilla y León, among other issues. During this conference, the GO CONTROL project will be disseminated. About the CONTROL Operational Group The Task Force on Optimization and improvement of the efficiency of solar irrigation through the use of digital technology, applying artificial intelligence (GO CONTROL), is framed in the context of water needs in the field. One of the greatest limitations in agriculture is knowing when to irrigate and in what quantity. Technological innovation is the key to solving this and the great revolution of ICT technologies, sensors and automatic processing capacity has opened up new possibilities for water and energy optimization. The compatibility of solar irrigation with digital technology would make it possible to stop this phenomenon of depopulation in rural areas, contributing to improving economic performance and creating value in these spaces. Women have a key role in the rural world that can be enhanced by activities that generate economies induced by the principal. The group's objectives are: Transforming agriculture into a smart and highly technological sector, applying digital technologies and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in solar irrigation and crop development. Digital technologies and AI, through the use of sensors and drones to validate results, will improve the efficiency of solar irrigation, making the most of natural resources and reducing water and energy consumption. Process analysis and definition of control algorithms will enable the development of applications for farmers' devices.

From February 26 to 28, 2025, the AGROALNEXT25 congress: Innovation and Transfer in the Spanish Agri-Food Sector will be held, based at the Miguel Hernández University, on its Orihuela campus. At this event, the most important advances of the AGROALNEXT project will be presented, including real cases of technology transfer. On February 19th at 6:30 pm , the Madrid College of Veterinarians (C. del Maestro Ripoll, 8, 28006 Madrid) will host the presentation of the results of the EQUIGENOM Operative Group, a key project for the application of genomics in the improvement and selection of the Purebred Spanish Horse (PRE) and the equine sector in general . This is a project led by the National Association of Purebred Spanish Horse Breeders (ANCCE) based on the application of genomics in the equine sector. The presentation will feature prominent figures from the livestock sector, as well as experts in genomics and animal production, who will present the advances achieved and the impact that genomic selection will have on the future of the sector. The results to be presented are based on the development of an economical medium-density (MD) chip (array) that simultaneously allows for the analysis of parentage with SNPs, the diagnosis of hereditary diseases, the detection of economically important traits and genomic selection in the PRE. This advance will facilitate the decision-making of breeders regarding the selection of their breeding stock and represents a significant milestone in the genetic and genomic improvement of the Purebred Spanish Horse and the equine sector. The objective of this technical workshop is to deepen knowledge of the mechanisms that facilitate soil improvement, the factors that increase organic matter, understand how they work and how we can enhance them, as well as point out which practices can be negative. The results of studies on vineyard soil management, carried out by INCAVI, will be presented with the aim of defining sustainable strategies that promote the quality of grapes and wine. IRTA will consider introducing new molecular analysis technologies that allow us to understand soil biology, better understand how it works, and improve its management.
