On January 29, the networking event " AKIS in action: Raising Awareness of Farmers' Role in the Agri- Food Supply Chain " will take place online via Zoom . Organised by modernAKIS , the European initiative seeking to boost the modernisation of agriculture through more efficient and effective Agricultural Knowledge and Innovation Systems (AKIS), this event is part of its series of networking events "AKIS in Action" which seeks to interconnect Agricultural Knowledge and Innovation Systems (AKIS) actors across Europe. The prominent role of farmers in the agri-food value chain Farmers play a crucial role in the sustainability and resilience of the agri-food supply chain, although their contributions are often underestimated. The aim of the event is to highlight the importance of farmers in this sphere. Initiatives designed to strengthen connections between farmers and other supply chain actors will be presented, fostering collaboration and innovation. The event will serve as a platform to share valuable knowledge, exchange best practices and discuss practical solutions to improve farmers’ participation and visibility in the food supply chain. This year, EUFRAS resumes the COFFEE Break event series started last year, and has already announced its first event of 2025, to be held on 23 January at 10:00 CET via Zoom . This time, the experience of the COREnet project, entitled "Short Food Supply Chains (SFSC) Advisory Network" will be explored. EUFRAS is the European Forum for Agricultural and Rural Advisory Services , an organisation that connects professionals and organisations dedicated to providing advisory services in the agricultural and rural field across Europe. From 10 to 12 December 2024 , Brussels will host the second edition of the EU Agri-Food Days . This annual event brings together key players in the agri-food sector from across the European Union to discuss the latest trends in agriculture, policy options and market developments, as well as the impact of research, innovation and digital technologies on the future of European agriculture. Over three days, the event will provide a unique platform for dialogue between stakeholders in the agri-food system, civil society, academia and policy makers. The 1st National Meeting of Young People and Hosts participating in the Cultiva Program will take place in Madrid on November 27. This program promoted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food provides young people from rural areas with access to on-site training, guided by the managers of model farms, examples of good practices and the implementation of innovation in the sector. In order to bring together the participants of the CULTIVA Programme (young people, hosts of model farms and management entities) from the 2020 to 2023 editions, and to create a network among all of them to discuss this initiative and the generational change in the agricultural sector, this meeting will take place, which will include discussion panels and activities that promote the exchange of experiences. The first open day of the 53rd Seminar for Horticultural Technicians and Specialists will be held on September 23rd . It is organized by the Andalusian Institute for Research and Training in Agriculture, Fisheries, Food and Organic Production (IFAPA) in collaboration with COITAND and MAPA. The Technical Conference organized by the Agrarian Technological Institute of the Junta de Castilla y León ( ITACyL ) and the Wine Technology Platform ( PTV ) aims to highlight innovation in the wine sector . The report “ What matters is milk: Roadmap for a dairy sector that is economically, socially and environmentally sustainable ” will be presented on July 4 in Madrid. Promoted by the Interprofessional Láctea ( InLac ), the study has been coordinated by Professor Manuel Laínez Andrés and lays the foundations for a more sustainable future for the Spanish dairy sector, highlighting global environmental sustainability objectives, aligned with the European strategy “From farm to table”. It also includes commitments to progress and a set of indicators to quantify them. To give visibility to the initiatives that are already being carried out in the sector to promote sustainability, a spot called “ Sustainable without knowing it ” has been created, which will be shown during the day, as part of a new communication campaign by the interprofessional. The event will bring together a large number of stakeholders from the dairy sector, from suppliers of raw materials for animal feed to livestock farmers, members of leading cooperatives and the processing industry.
