This talk presents the changes that living and inert covers generate in agricultural soils for permanent crops, such as olive groves and vineyards. Special emphasis is placed on the measurement and monitoring of the hydrological properties of the soil, complemented by aspects of soil fertility and biology; case results will be offered both for Aragon and other communities. With the data obtained, it is possible to achieve better agronomic management, which is essential for environmental sustainability, to optimize management, resources and to boost the profitability of farms. 14:00 h. Agroecological Meeting is a consolidated event of the country's agricultural and livestock sector that is attended by farmers, technicians, agricultural consultants, industries, cooperatives, marketers and companies that intervene in the agri-food chain. This eighth edition is focused on woody crops (olive, almond, citrus, pistachio, etc.) that are experiencing the proliferation of new plantations, the generalization of novel agroecological techniques and the rise of intensive models, aspects that show their dynamism. In recent years, a change has been taking place in the cultivation of nuts in Spain. The new intensive plantations provide precocity, total mechanization, continuous harvesting and high production. There is still room for improvement in the advancement of agronomic management of these plantations so that we opt for efficient and sustainable production models both economically and environmentally. The III Almond and Pistachio Forum aims to highlight this production model and transfer to the producer the most appropriate cultivation techniques to make a profitable and sustainable crop, in addition to addressing the possibilities offered by organic production.
