The event will begin at 3:30 p.m. and is specifically aimed at exporting companies interested in extending the shelf life of their products with natural and effective solutions . The event will feature participation from academic and technical experts. Antonio Mena , Territorial Delegate for Agriculture in Almería, will open the event, followed by presentations by Juan Carlos Pérez Mesa , Juan Luis Valenzuela , Sandra Mañas (Sanifruit), and technicians from the Technology Department of the Tecnova Foundation . On January 15, 2025 , the horticulture sector has a key date with the conference entitled “Innovation and Challenges in Horticulture” , an event that will bring together experts, companies and professionals in a forum for the exchange of knowledge. The conference, organized by Tierras Agricultura magazine and Grupo Interempresas, will be held in an environment designed to foster connections between the main players in the sector. Program of the day 09:00 - Opening: The event will begin with a welcome by Ángel Pérez, Director of the Agricultural Area of Grupo Interempresas , and representatives of Banco Sabadell and SOAGA , under the moderation of Alejandro de Vega, Editorial Coordinator of Tierras Agricultura . Block I: Trends in the horticulture sector This first block will start at 09:30 with the presentation by SOAGA, followed by Enrique Cadiñanos, from Bejo Ibérica, who will address the importance of seed quality in horticultural varieties. In addition, there will be an additional presentation before giving way to a coffee break and networking at 10:15 . Block II: The challenges in plant health of horticultural crops The session will resume at 11:00 with a focus on plant health. The first open day of the 53rd Seminar for Horticultural Technicians and Specialists will be held on September 23rd . It is organized by the Andalusian Institute for Research and Training in Agriculture, Fisheries, Food and Organic Production (IFAPA) in collaboration with COITAND and MAPA. Every year, the renowned Purple Garlic Fair is held at the Las Pedroñeras Exhibition and Exhibition Centre. This event brings together around 40 exhibitors and attracts around 6,000 visitors interested in the various sectors related to garlic. The sectors represented include all stages of garlic processing and packaging, as well as herbs and medicinal products, phytosanitary products, seeds, marketing and publishing, machinery and equipment for sowing, harvesting, storage, transport, weighing, packaging and conditioning, as well as a variety of agricultural vehicles. Workshop on tools to improve biological control of two very important pests in tomato crops, the moth Tuta absoluta and the scab mite Aculops lycopersici . During the workshop, data obtained from two projects in which the IRTA Sustainable Plant Protection Programme participates will be presented. On the one hand, the results of studies carried out within the framework of an Operational Group to promote the use of parasitoids in the management of lepidoptera will be shown. On the other hand, a visit will be made to an experimental greenhouse where, within the framework of the European ADOPT-IPM project , two biological control tools have been integrated to combat the two most important pests affecting tomato crops.
